Bancroft Tower
Let me show you Bancroft Tower, a 56-foot-high folly located in Salisbury Park here in Worcester. This stone structure was designed by Earle & Fisher and construction started in 1900. While it looks like a defensive fortification, it was actually erected in memory of George Bancroft. It is a distinct landmark in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At the time it was built, the project cost about $15,000. You can pick out the unique architectural style as you walk through the park. I've seen plenty of things from the air, but this tower always stands out against the greenery of the park. It is a wonderful spot to pause and appreciate the scale of the masonry before moving on to your next shot.
