Let me show you one of the most recognizable points of the San Francisco skyline. The Transamerica Pyramid is a skyscraper and office building designed by architect William Pereira. More recently, the building was sold to NYC investor Michael Shvo in 2020, who hired Norman Foster to renovate the building and redesign the interiors in 2022. Robert Ingersoll Aitken is the artist behind the Dewey Monument, a sculpture found at the center of Union Square. Created in 1901, this memorial statue is dedicated to Admiral George Dewey. You will first notice the sleek, metallic hull of the USS Pampanito, a Balao-class submarine built for the United States Navy during World War II. It is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I find it interesting that this is the third U.S. Navy vessel named for the pompano fish.
