Fort McIntosh
You will first notice the distinct Victorian architecture style of the buildings at Fort McIntosh. This site in Laredo is a fort that is also listed as a National Register of Historic Places place. It had its inception in 1849 and served as a U.S. Army base in Webb County, Texas. The base remained active from 1849 to 1946. I always think the old military layouts make for a great walk, and this spot is no different. Whether you are here for the history or just to see the old structures, it is a clear window into the Army's presence in the region. You can spend some time wandering the grounds to get a feel for how the base functioned during its long years of operation.
