The Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino is an hacienda, also known as a quinta, that was built in 1608. Today, it is a museum located in the corregimiento of Mamatoco within the tourist district of Santa Marta. This site is a significant stop for any visitor because it is where Simón Bolívar died on December 17, 1830. Because of its history and preservation, the property is part of the National Monuments of Colombia. I always find the layout of these old estates fascinating to look at from above. You can see how the grounds were designed for both production and residence long before the city grew around it. It is a place where the architecture tells a story of an older era in Colombia.
