Mackay Stadium

Lawlor Events Center

Let me show you the Lawlor Events Center. It is named after Jake Lawlor, who was a former athletic director as well as a coach for baseball, basketball, and football. This arena sits on the University of Nevada, Reno campus at the intersection of North Virginia Street and 15th Street. It is northern Nevada's largest multi-purpose arena. I usually see plenty of excited crowds heading inside for big events, though I personally prefer the view from the rafters where the air is clearer. It is a great spot to see how the university integrates its athletic facilities into the city.

National Automobile Museum

The National Automobile Museum is an automobile museum located in Reno, Nevada. It is a significant stop for any visitor interested in automotive history, as most of the vehicles on display come from the collection of William F. Harrah. I've seen plenty of shiny things in this city, but the polish on these cars is something else. The museum opened on November 5, 1989, and continues to house an impressive array of cars for the public to enjoy. It is a great place to stretch your legs and admire some mechanical art.

Nevada Museum of Art

You might expect Reno to be all about the casinos, but let me show you the Nevada Museum of Art. This is the only AAM accredited art museum in the state. It is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1931. If you visit the building designed by architect Will Bruder, you will see a space that continues to grow. In 2024, the museum began construction on a 50,000 square foot expansion, which fully opened in August 2025. I've seen a lot of things from the air, but this place is a real standout at 160 West Liberty Street.

Bruka Theatre

Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral

The Greek Revival architecture style is the first thing you notice at Saint Thomas Aquinas Cathedral. Located at 310 W. 2nd Street, this Catholic cathedral was started in 1908. Though it is a National Register of Historic Places contributing property today, a fire nearly destroyed the building in 1909. The cathedral complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022. It is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Reno, Nevada, United States, and remains a central point of faith in the community.
