While the space was originally envisioned in 1922, it took several decades for the formal dedication of the 15th Street Mall on July 22, 1972. Later that year, on December 18, the Lincoln City Council renamed the expanse Centennial Mall to honor the 1967 centennial of the State of Nebraska. Today, you can pick out how the mall stretches northwards from the Nebraska State Capitol to the University of Nebraska - Lincoln's city campus. It is a long walk for humans, but it is only seven blocks. The area was renovated in 2016, making it a great spot to relax. I find the open layout quite helpful for spotting crumbs from a distance.
