S-chanf

Schweiz

S-chanf sits in the upper Engadin valley in Graubünden, at the point where the Inn river valley opens toward the Swiss National Park. The village lies on the main valley road, Hauptstrasse 27, which runs the length of the Engadin from St. Moritz through Samedan, Zuoz, and Zernez. Drivers coming from the north typically arrive over the Julier Pass or Albula Pass, both connecting to the A13 and the rest of Switzerland; from Davos, the Flüela Pass offers a direct route into the valley. Most trips to S-chanf are short hops within the Engadin. Zernez, 15 km down the valley, is a common daily connection and the last stop before the Ofenpass road toward Val Müstair and Italy. Sils im Engadin/Segl, 32 km away near the Maloja Pass, draws both locals and day-trippers heading toward the lake district around Silvaplana and Sils. St. Moritz, with its spas and ski lifts on Corviglia, is 22 km to the southwest. Engadin Airport (SMV) lies 14 km from the village, serving small aircraft and gliders rather than commercial flights. Public fast chargers are common in this part of the Engadin, with approximately over 30 within reach of S-chanf, making it a practical stop for electric vehicles moving between the valley towns. S-chanf is best known as the main gateway into the Val Trupchun, a side valley of the Swiss National Park where red deer gather in large numbers each autumn, drawing hikers and wildlife watchers from across the region.
